Nobel Pursuits
The Economic Society Contest for the 2026 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences
Every year, the Economic Society brings the Bocconi community together to discuss the ideas and research behind the latest Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences. See our past Nobel Events!
This year, before turning to the winners and their contributions, we are starting with a challenge: can you predict who they will be? Fill the form below to participate! Open to the entire Bocconi Community (students, faculty, alumni, and staff).
Rulebook
1. Participation
The contest is free and open to all members of the Bocconi community. Each participant may submit one entry using their Bocconi email address.
2. How to enter
Participants may predict between one and three recipients of the 2026 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel.
Participants may also optionally indicate the motivation, contribution, research area, or paper they expect the Prize to recognize. This information does not affect the main score but may be used to break a tie.
Entries must be submitted by 10:00 AM CEST on Monday, 12 October 2026. Entries received or modified after the deadline will not be considered.
3. Scoring
The final score is the sum of two components:
-
Correctness: the proportion of the participant’s selections who receive the Prize.
-
Completeness: the total official prize share received by the laureates whom the participant selected.
The maximum possible score is 2 points, obtained only by predicting the exact set of laureates. Participants do not need to predict how the Prize will be divided. The official shares announced by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences will be used automatically.
Example
Suppose A, C and D receive the Prize. The official shares are 50% for A, 25% for C and 25% for D.
-
Predicting A only: 1 correctness point + 0.50 prize share = 1.50 points
-
Predicting A and C: 1 correctness point + 0.75 prize share = 1.75 points
-
Predicting A, C and D: 1 correctness point + 1 total prize share = 2 points
-
Predicting A and B: 0.50 correctness points + 0.50 prize share = 1 point
-
Predicting A, B and C: 0.67 correctness points + 0.75 prize share = 1.42 points
4. Tie-breaking
If two or more participants obtain the same score, the winner will be the participant whose optional prediction of the motivation, contribution, research area, or paper is judged closest to the official prize motivation. The decision will be made by the contest organizers and will be final. If the tie cannot be resolved in this way, or if none of the tied participants submitted a motivation, the winner will be selected through a random draw.
5. Prize
The winner will receive ESBS merchandise. The specific item, design, size and delivery arrangements will be communicated directly to the winner.
6. Entries and results
If a participant submits more than one entry, only their first valid submission received before the deadline will be considered.
The winner will be contacted through their Bocconi email address following the official announcement.
7. Final provisions
This initiative is organized solely for entertainment and promotional purposes. It is an independent ESBS initiative and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Nobel Foundation or the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences or by Bocconi University.
