FAQs
1 / Do you accept applications from freshmen?
Yes! First- and second-year bachelor students are welcome to apply to our Affiliateship Program. Affiliates attend more accessible seminars, tailored for early-stage students, to develop the tools and critical approach required to understand and discuss the diverse streams of economic literature. You will also be matched with a Fellow, who will guide you throughout your experience with us!
2 / Do I have to be an economics major?
No. While most of our fellows study economics at either undergraduate or graduate level, we are happy to consider applications from students in adjacent fields, as policy and finance. Yet, a strong interest in economics and adequate basic knowledge is required.
3 / I already applied in the past but was not accepted. Should I reapply?
Yes. You should definitely reapply if your interest in economics is strenghtened. Your continued interest in the asssociation is considered a plus in the recruiting process. Additionally, we are happy to provide feedback on your application, should it have a negative outcome, when requested.
4 / I am an exchange student. Can I apply?
Yes. While most of our fellows have a longer tenure within the association of approximately two years, we are more than happy to consider applications from exchange students to bring novel insights from the most diverse possible backgrounds.
5 / Who is your ideal candidate?
There is no ideal candidate. What we are always looking for are bright potential members of a diverse community that share a strong passion for economics. Be ready to prove your appreciation for the subject, and be yourself.
6 / When should I apply?
The earlier, the better. We recruit on a rolling basis, and the first applications received are the first reviewed by our recruiting team. Take your time to prepare carefully your CV and answer our motivational questions. Once done, don't hesitate submitting your application!
7 / How is the interview structured?
The interview format depends on the program you will be applying for. If you apply to become an Affiliate, we will primarily address your motivation and curiosity towards our Association. You may also be asked to reason through a fictional economic scenario, but you do not require any technical knowledge. If you apply to become a Fellow, be prepared to additionally answer some technical questions, tailored to your academic background. Since each Fellow is asked to discuss a paper of their choice during the year, you can also expect questions about your research interests to assess your preparation.
